EAD help.

Hi, just a quick question :)
How do I go about applying for an EAD? I am on an l2 visa.
Also does it always involve biometrics?
As our nearest USCIS office is not very close, i was hoping we could avoid biometrics .
Thankyou for all your help over the past 2 years, we could not have got here without all the help and advise that we received on this forum! :thumbup:

Submit form I-765.

Yes.

Biometrics are usually taken at an ASC and not a DO. My nearest DO was 3.5 hours away... my nearest ASC was only 1 hour away.

ASC = Application Support Center
DO = District Office

I have an L1 visa and my husband applied for his EAD last year. He did not have to have any biometrics done, just send all the paperwork. It took about 10 weeks at that time. Only time we have had to do anything with biometrics was last month for green card application

I'm a J2 and I didn't do biometrics for my EAD either, sent of my renewal last week so we'll see if they want it this time. I got my first one 6 weeks after submitting the forms.

Here is a sample EAD card - I am struggling to work out how you can have one without a biometrics appointment given that it has both a photograph and fingerprint? :confused:

Re: EAD help.

Mine just says 'fingerprint not available' in the position for the fingerprint.

Just checked - his also says fingerprint not available. Don't even remember thinking about fingerprints at the time he applied. I know he had to send a passport photograph and copy of our marriage license, as well as copies of visa information. Seemed very simple and straightforward!

Only L-2 spouses may apply for an EAD, not L-2 dependent children.

Download and complete form I-765 from uscis.gov
