Default EAD = SSN?

Not sure if this should be in here?

May be a dumb question - but it's early. Now that my daughter has her EAD.. does that mean I can apply for her SSN #? One of her jobs are questioning her ITIN, no clue why - they only want it for tax purposes, and well, that's exactly what the number is.

oops!
Yes, the ITIN is not appropriate. Now that she is eligible for a SSN, she should apply for it. The employer is supposed to ask to see it within 3 days of hire.

we didnt get EAD's for the boys (seeing as they are only 4 and 2 !!!) so at what point should we apply for their ssn's - after green cards are in hand?

Yes, as Permanent Residents they will have a SS card just like a USC's. (without the DHS legend on the front)
And then again if/when they naturalize, as they'll be eligible for different benefits as citizens vs PR.

A social security number is required by the government when a person has earned income. A social security number is used by the government to track social security and medicare payments generated by earned income to determine future benefits.
