Re: E-3 Visa for Australians Thread- It's all in here
Hi Ian
Thank you for your prompt reply.
I have no US experience. I am familiar with US accounting practices. I have a bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Finance. I am part qualified and have started my CPA. I am just putting the feelers out there to see if anyone has a similar experience to myself
Thanks again for the reply

-Keep in mind that BCom + 3 years experience means lots of competition out there already. Positive is that, situation is much better now than it was say 18 months ago.
- I come from Accounting / Finance back ground too. The best advice I can give you is just network. Don't expect things to happen in 90 days (first visit). Sure they can happen but as an example it took me 3 visits to land a job
Good luck.

Hi Guys,
I got my interview next Thursday.
I'll have with me:
Now, the questions are:
I have a scanned version of my academic transcript.... will a colour printed copy of that be sufficient?
And also... I only have like $1000 in the bank plus a credit card....
not sure how I'm going to prove that I can support myself....
My employer is paying for my flights, acommodation, visa, etc etc....
can someone please shed some light on this..... and let me know if the above listed items mentioned are correct?
Cheers
Dom

Also I am pretty sure I didn't take anything in order to support myself.

I'd bring the actual diploma instead of a copy, although you may not be asked to show it at all. Academic transcript is probably not needed especially if you have graduated, but bring it anyway. If your job requires some sort of licenses to practice, you should bring that too. Otherwise I think you have everything.

The offer letter with the salary you will be receiving is your evidence of how you will support yourself
As for transcripts: I think the first time around they looked at a copy of mine (I had the originals with me), second time they didn't even bother. I would err on the side of transcripts rather than degree certificate, especially if there may be any question about the nature of your 'specialist knowledge' for the particular position.
I'm guessing the old form for males between ages <something> and <something else> to complete is now covered by the new DS-160...?
Don't forget a book/magazine to keep you entertained once you're through security!

"Yeah, I know I overstayed my VWP by 2 years last time, but this time I promise I'm only going for 2 weeks for my sisters wedding!!"
(But yeah, take a book. A dead tree version, not an e-book reader that you won't be able to get past security with)

Re: E-3 Visa for Australians Thread- It's all in here
Hi guys,
I visited the US for three months earlier this year, just as a tourist under the VWP. Whilst I was there I met a guy who was in the process of starting up a company. I told him to contact me if he ever needed an environmental scientist (I have a Bachelors degree in Geology). Anyway, he called me a few days ago and told me he would love to employ me.
I feel that this should entitle me to the E3 visa, right? I am an Australian with a three year degree and a job offer in the US.
The only issue I can see is that the owner of the company is a friend of mine. He also doesn't have any other employees, nor does he have an office. His business is real, and the job is real, but is it enough to qualify for a working visa?
Ideally I would like to do all the paperwork and get the visa before I enter the US so that I don't have to fly all the way back to Australia before starting the job.

Heh, sorry that was so confusing!
Potential issues: The company is so small, and the owner-operator is a personal friend who offered me the job without advertising or looking for local candidates.
I am in Australia and will be submitting the paperwork here.

The other question you want to ask yourself is do you really want to put yourself in a situation where you're moving to another country to work in such a small company? What guarantees do you have around job security - especially keeping in mind that technically if you no longer work for that employer then you have 10 days to get out of the country (yes, there are workaround, but...)
What about benefits like health insurance that would normally be included in your package - is it?

I think that if the right questions get asked during the interview (and there's a reasonable chance that they would) then you probably stand a good chance of being rejected. There's also the issue of whether the LCA would be approved - I'm not sure of what the requirements are there.

There aren't any benefits or health insurance, but I have enough cash lying around to support myself even if I wasn't being paid at all!
I guess at the very least this could be a fun experience, even if it doesn't lead to anything great.
