Default DV Lottery 2006

I am in New Zealand and entered the 'green card lottery'. I have been sent a
letter telling me I've been successful in the first stage of application and
that I can apply for a diversity based working visa. I understand if I'm
successful I will need to travel to the United States within 6 months.

I applied for the lottery on the basis that I'd like to travel and work in
the United States towards the end of 2006 onwards. However, if need be I can
travel there sooner to fulfill the requirements of the visa.

My question is, can I travel to the US for just a week or so within the 6
month requirement, return to New Zealand and then return to the US at the
end of 2006 on a more permanent basis? I don't want to go on with the next
step of the visa application if I can't do this as I have work and study
commitments in New Zealand until then.

Interviews will only start on 1 October 2005. The date of your interview is totaly dependant on your case number.

Google for "DV case number" looking at previous years and seeing when similar case numbers were current. That will give you a good indication as to when you will have your interview. If successful you will then have 6 months to enter the USA.
