Hi Brian,

So have you found anywhere on the Net/US government site, etc where it
suggests a particular amount of money the consular staff will want to
see at the time of the interview?

I agree...its the support part of the requirements I am curious
about....we have the equivalent of US$17,000 (as long as the Aussie
dollar doesn't slide any further agains the US dolla)r and my paid
long service leave that amounts to say another 10,000 dollars or so.
Now, I don't know if they would take into consideration any monies
from that long service leave---but its something.

Also...from this point forward till we hear about the interview---are
we supposed to be getting police clearances and other information?
Like...to get prepared in case we get the interview notice? I think I
read somewhere in our instructions not to get the police clearances
just yet.

Are you going to try and secure a bona-fide US job offer in lieu of
any funds?

JM

I did read somewhere that you had to have just more than 6 months of the official poverty level income for your size family. This is also subjective and depends on your qualifications and where in the US you are planning to move to, but is a good quideline.

Hi Scott,

This is excellent information...we have three in our family size so
so say half of US$20,000 would be US$10,000 give or take so the
$US17,000 we have now should be plenty--but if need be I could add in
the long service leave monies. I really appreciate your advice.
Washington state is a lovely place and a favourite US state of ours.
We'd be looking to live somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

Thanks!

JM

No. I don't know much they expect, which is why I'm a bit worried.

I don't think so. Just one step at a time. I'm just doing what each
letter and form asks, at this stage.

I haven't looked for a job yet (just started a new one here) but will
look when it gets closer, so I've got some experience with my current
job and can look for the same work in the USA. That is, I'll have two
different careers to apply for instead of one.
