When my son and I return to the U.S. from Canada what do we all need
other than that temporary greencard for the border guys? I was
thinking our passports, our birth certificates and my marriage
certificate? Will that suffice? We're driving so I'll have my Idaho
D.L. of course.

You've got all the bases covered. You should only need your GCs and passports, but the other stuff is certainly helpful.
