Default Driving car into US with H-1B & H-4 visa, + personal belonging

Hi!

We planned to drive to US with our car (Ontario plate, was
imported from US to Canada before) as soon as we got our H-1B &
H-4 visa. Will there be any special issues in entering US with
the car?

We don't want to reimport the car into US since my wife will
still mainly live in Canada with the car. Will we have problem
with US custom on that?

How to make sure my wife will not have problem importing the car
to US when she actually move to US (with H-4) a year or so
later?

Do I need to make an inventory list of my personal belonging
that I bring to US? What information I need to put in the list?
How detailed the list should be? Is there any sample of that
kind of list?

Thank you!

Probably not. Both the US and Canada have rules about citizens and
permanent residents driving only "local" cars (that's why you have to be
careful what kind of car you rent in border cities), but I don't think
they apply to H-1Bs.

For temporary importation, probably not. You may of course have to
present evidence that she will take it back.

Please visit the US customs Web site for information on that. In
addition, your destination state may also have rules about importing cars.

Same answer: go to the US customs service Web site. You will probably
need a list of all major items, as well as minor items as a group
("Household items" "silverware" etc.) along with the values. If at all
possible, you should have receipts.

When moving into the USA from abroad, there are special exemptions that
don't usually apply. I don't know exactly what kind of evidence you need
that you are actually moving.

I am aware about that law. Actually it have nothing to do with
immigration status, but with where the driver actually live / reside,
regardless of legal status.

Will the common proof for immigration (residence, jobs) works?
Will the fact that she enter US with me who will definitely stay in US
for awhile make things complicated?

I did go there, but no information on the what the inventory list should
look like and what information should be there.

Thanks!

Yes, I think you are right on this. The question is whether a
non-immigrant would be considered to "live" in one or the other country
here. I don't think that is the case. So you would most likely be
considered to live in Canada.

This is very much a case-by-case decision. Based on what you have been
saying, Canadian residency will probably not help much, because you have
the same residency, and you do admit to planning to remain in the USA.
Her having a job to return to will be much better.
