Documents for travel while Processing I-751
Hello Everyone,
I will be travelling out of the country this weekend for a few days. I
am waiting for my conditional status to be removed after marrying a US
citizen 3 years ago. I already received a notice of action the I-797
but still do not have my appt to receive my permanent residency. Is
the expired green card and the I-797 (notice of action) enough to get
me back into the US or do I have to get some other document? Thanks
for any advice.

The I-797 NOA states that your card has been extended for 1 year. You
only need your (expired) GC and this NOA as proof of your status.

The best is to make the infopass appointment at your local immigration office and get the stamp in your passport.
I'm a flight attendant and I travel out of US quite a lot. Right now I am also waiting for my 10year GC to arrive. Before I had only the I-797 and one time one of the immigration officer told me that I-797 was not enough and I needed the stamp in my passport. He let me go, but he said that he was going to make a note about the lack of stamp, so the next time they won't let me go through without it.
If you don't have time for the appointment the I-797 should do, but for the future travels I suggest to get the stamp!
