Delaying Plans
Well looks like we'll be delaying our plans to move back but we will eventually move. There was an accident with our son at a daycare which made us rethink our childcare plans. So my husband is giving up his part time job to stay home with our son. Obviously our income will go down so will our savings plan. We were hoping to go before April next year but it might be October next year now, which sucks because of the new immigration rules. Anyway my question really is we have a couple of thousand to pay off our credit card I was hoping to do this before we move but was wondering if it was possible to still make payments internationally? The same with my husbands student loan. How does it work internationally?

I hope your little one is OK, it's scary when they get hurt. and you aren't there to see to them right away.
We are trying to figure out the loan part too. Ds has two student loans and he closed his US bank account before leaving If he had left it open he could have transferred money each month with Xe or even paypal and paid it online through the bank.
We have found out that one loan (Perkins loan) can be paid online with mastercard on the website, so he can get a CC and do that.
I paid our US Mastercard from UK for a year, I used to get a check in $ from the bank each month I only needed 3 or 4 to pay it off, then we stopped using it. I don't remember what the bank charged me for doing that.
www.uk-yankees.com has more info on loans etc as a lot of them went to Uni in the US before moving.

Yeah we plan on leaving our US account open and transferring money via paypal. The good thing is we'll be able to pay more of his student loan off in the UK due to the exchange rate. Did you postpone payments on everything until you found a job?

We are still in US Only our oldest son moved back so far, He's been putting the money into a UK account for me and I've been making his payments. He was planning to visit and I hoped he'd open a new US account while we are still here (I don't know if he can do that from UK) Then he can transfer and make the payments himself. Kids! Number 2 son moves after high school next june and Dh Dd and I follow soon after

Re: Delaying Plans
You really should sue the daycare place. Firstly, to make them take more care in future. Secondally, you can use the money for the move. It's pretty terrible what happened but I'm glad the little one is OK. But they do deserve to be sued.
