Default David Cameron "sorting" US visa denial

I saw this article a few days ago but can't see that anyone's posted it here so thought I'd share.

How likely is it that this actually happened (as stated in this article)?

Amir Khan tells how David Cameron sorted his visa problems

Would the British PM really be able to influence a visa for an individual?

It's possible, though more likely an aide was dispatched to make calls rather than the PM himself.

As with all mainstream reporting of visa issues, the story is hopelessly light on detail and full of odd contradictory stuff. Depending on which report you read he was variously given a visa one week then denied boarding at the gate a week later. The flight was ominously on 9/11 so that MUST have been the reason.

Yes, I did see it reported slightly differently in another article and it all just seemed a bit far fetched to me.

It just looks like a guy who's into name-dropping to me.

I would guess the most significant detail that was omitted is that the Civil Service has access to a phone number in the US embassy that is answered by, or directed to, someone who can actually get something done.

Well he said he was working, and he was denied entry - so it could just be as simple as he tried to enter on the VWP and the inspector figured he needed to be work authorized so denied him entry on that basis. Nothing sinister.

It's not that. This boxer has a significant criminal record.
