Current timescales for H1B and H4
Anyone know what the current timescales are? We were working on the assumption it would be approximately a month from application to result, but I've read it can come through in as little as a week? I know things have changed this year since the immigration guidelines have changed.
And does anyone know what the situation is with making the appointment at the US embassy? Can you get an appointment in the same week?
We found a beautiful house, in our budget and preferred area, but then found that contrary to what we had been lead to believe, our Visa hadn't been sent off a month ago, but last week!!! I can't bear to lose yet another house, I'm hoping it goes through quickly!

If you're after an H1b and your employer is paying for Premium Processing then you are guaranteed a response within 15 calendar days but a response can mean a RFE (request for evidence). That could add anything from a few days to several weeks depending on how complex it is.
Then you need your I-797, that can take a week or two to get from USCIS and your employer's attorney.
Interviews can usually be booked with a few days notice.
So I would say the minimum will be around 4 weeks if everything goes perfectly.
If your employer hasn't used Premium Processing I believe current processing is 7+ weeks.
