Unhappy Conviction 7 years ago, any advice appreciated.

7 years ago I bought a train ticket from some guy, anyway to cut a long story short the ticket inspector see it and told me it was fake. I was stupid for buying the ticket in the first place but honestly didn’t know it was a fake. As a result it went to court they acknowledged I didn’t know it was a fake but was still charged with using false information. Received a fine and that was it.

I have worked really hard with my career and have since been offered a job to work in NYK for a couple of years, trouble is the above minor conviction. Under the UK rehabilitation act I wasn’t entitled to inform my work of the conviction so they don’t know, however my boss does.

I have never been to the US so never lied on a Visa waiver about the conviction.

1) If I just apply for the Visa will this make me inadmissible?

2) If so what are my chances of getting waived? How long would that take?

3) My work would sponsor the Visa and get a external company to help with the application. Would I need to tell them or could I apply without them knowing?

4) I could be out there as early as October if all was ok, what are my chances?

Probably not. You got charged for a misdemeanor, so I don't think it
is an issue at all.

Your boss wouldn't be the person looking at your visa application.
Weigh pros and cons of telling the truth where the truth was supposed
to be you were cheated, not that you committed a crime knowingly.

The offense wouldn't make you inadmissible because it would be a single petty offense and qualify for an exception. You'd need to disclose it on the application, but it wouldn't make you inadmissible. You shouldn't need a waiver. It may delay the visa a bit, but shouldn't prevent the approval.
