conversion from F1 to Opt

Dear Sir/Ma'am,

I would be completing my Masters sometime around March 2007 and need to
know when is the best time to apply for OPT , H1 and any websites where
I could gather more information.

All suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks & regards,

Pavan

Re: conversion from F1 to Opt

Hi Pavan,

You should have your OPT once you graduate or apply within two
months(grace period) after you graduate otherwise you will be out of
status. Your OPT is valid for 1 year, during that period you should
have your H1 sponsored by a company. The H1 quota starts in early
April and the masters quota for this year finished on 7/26/2006. So
within 4-5 months of it opening you should get your H1. If you get
your OPT in April-May you would probably be eligible for FY08 quota
(starting 04/2007) and barely for FY09 quota (starting 04/2008).
You should refer to these sites for more info:

www.murthy.com/h1bfaqs.html

Hope this helps
