Default Citizenship Test + Swearing In

Hi Everyone.

I have my interview date this coming Thursday. I am to take marriage cert previous divorce papers. wife's birth cert. old and current passports. Driving license 3 yrs tax returns. Civics test, My question is can I expect the swearing in taking the oath at the same time or will that probably be a later date. the letter doesn't mention taking the oath but says expect to be there for 2 hrs. Can anyone throw any light on this as my wife want to be at the ceremony if it's taking the oath. Thanks Ray.

If they hold Oath Ceremonies the same day, you'll take the Oath that day. You can probably call the clerk and find out if that's something they do. If not, it'll be scheduled for the next open ceremony. Most don't have the Oath Ceremony the same day... and even if they do, you can ask to be put on the list for a later day. No need to get the wife anxious about missing it.

That's nothing to do with the Oath. It can take that long to get through everyone who's interviewing that day.

I was able to take my oath the same day. I had my interview (such as it was) and test (which was pretty easy too!) and then told to return at 2:00 pm, when the ceremony took place and we were given our naturalization certificates and welcomed to citizenship by President Obama (on video)!

Thinking back on it, and not wanting to turn this into a political discussion, I'm glad it wasn't someone else telling me "You're citizenized"!!!!!

All that being said, it depends on many factors. The odds are against a same-day ceremony, but it could happen.

My test was in the afternoon, and it was too late to take the oath ceremony on the same day. Just depends on timing. This was in Seattle. Naomi.

In CT the ceremonies take place once a month in three (I think) different towns. I had missed the one local to me, but was allowed to go to another location rather than waiting until the next month.

In lower NYS, there are oath ceremonies that take place in Brooklyn and in Manhattan at the federal court building. None are down on the same day. Don't know Lakeview, NY so can't say what they do in that area for the oath ceremony. But don't count on the ceremony being the same day.
