Default change of H1B sponsor

I have a question and hope someone can help me. I am on a H1B here in the US. I am planning to change my employer in order to start working for a new eligable employer/H1B sponsor. My immigration layer will work on the new petition. Do you know if I can travel outside the US while my petition is pending? another question is, would I put my H1B visa in jeopardy if I quit my current job before we start filing for the new company even if its only 2 weeks in between? thank you for your advice.

As long as you are still in status as an H1B and all your reentry documents
are still valid, you can travel in and out of the US!

Once you quit your job with the employer who petitioned you to get that H1B
status, you are out of status!
The petition with the new company has to be approved before you can start
working for that company. Merely filing for it does not give you new status

In case of an H-1B transfer, the applicant can start work for the new
sponsor from the moment the petition was filed.
For safety's sake, most people wait until they have the receipt notice in
hand though.

This is assuming there is no gap in employment.
