can we change 751 interview date?

Hi,

My wife and I have made plans to travel overseas (visit her family), and we
just received a letter from USCIS regarding our petition to remove her
conditional residency status (I-751). It says in part:

"Your petition is being forwarded to your local District Office (New York
City) to await an interview schedule date. When an interview date becomes
available, the District Office will notify you in a separate notice of the
date and time you will need to appear for the interview."

I can't tell from the language whether the interview date is imminent, or
whether the letter is more of a courtesy FYI kind of thing.

Is it possible to request a schedule date for anytime AFTER we return from
our trip? Or do we have to cancel and stay home, just in case? Do these
notification letters usually arrive shortly before the interview date or
months before?

My wife's conditional Green Card expires mid-October (this includes her
1-year extension after the initial 2 years).

The permanent resident status is automatically extended until your case is adjudicated. Even though your one year NOA extension implies that it expires mid-October, it does not.

Sorry, but I don't know what to recommend about your upcoming trip and any conflict with the interview date. I guess it depends on how long your trip is for. If it is for a week then I wouldn't worry about it, if it is for a month then I would. You can reschedule the interview if you have a good reason.

Wow you got through VSC quickly. Of course, you can reschedule and there is no way to determine when they will set up the initial interview. Can be in one week or 6 months or a year from now. Have someone get your mail for you when you are away so you will know when the appointment is for. And on the off chance you get the letter two days before the appointment, have a letter set to go for such an occurrence. The person getting your mail can send it for you by overnight mail.

When did you file I-751!? You might still get an approval letter from the NYC office, however most likely an interview will be schedule. I would try to get the I-751 issue resolved before travelling, you are almost on your final steps of dealing with USCIS and it would be a shame to screw up your case at this point.
