B2 Visa application process (confusion)

Hi I was wondering if you could help me please. Me and my wife were born in the UK and are currently living in Portugal with residence status here. We would like to go to the US and take in a 3 month road trip then stay in our home in Florida for a further 3 months. I have looked on the US website and a B2 visa is needed (i think), now I looked at the USA Portugal website and it mentions a 4 day processing time. Now the question, what is the first thing we need to do, are we required to apply for an interview or do we need to fill out any forms first, I was mainly worried about the trip to Lisbon do we need to pre arrange a date & time and will the application all be done in one day or would we be required to stay over. I am sorry about the question but the websites are very confusing. Hope you can help.
Steve

Seems simple enough .....
follow the instructions ..ensuring that your circumstances are
such that a B-2 will be granted ...
