APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP

Hi everyone!
Just a question about when Dan can apply for citizenship. He will be here 3
years in July......we were married July 8th.
He has the one year extension letter while waiting for the permanent green card
from Vermont...we aren't holding our breath by the way!! LOL!!
Anyway, should he be applying for citizenship now? Or do we have to wait for
the permanent green card to arrive first?
Thanks!!

Re: APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP

We are in the same spot, Joan. Dan can apply 90 days from the third anniversary of becoming a permanent resident/conditional as well. The marriage must be a full three years in length at the time of filing, however. He must also not have been outside of the country for more than 18 months in three years. There are other criteria and it is all spelled out on the N-400 instructions.

Jim and I just completed his forms this week and will be mailing them in three weeks. It will such a relief to have it over with. Although with dealing with VSC and NYC, it might be another two years before the interview and oath ceremony. The man might be a senile by that time as he will be 62 on the date of mailing.

One problem we had: They ask for hair color. His is defintely salt and pepper but the options are black or grey. I wanted to check both boxes while he only wanted to check black. Offered to give him a box of Grecian Formula to use before picture taking ;-)

Re: APPLYING FOR CITIZENSHIP

Rita,
I probably would have wanted to check both boxes as well! LOL!!! Maybe you
can be the first to suggest a "new box" be put on the application! I dare ya!
We will be married a full 3 years this coming July 8th so I guess we have a bit
of time to wait but meanwhile we can get all out stuff together for the filing.
He hasn't been out of the country more than 18 months ever. We did make a
visit to England at Christmas last year to visit his family but only for 3
weeks. We have already presented that information with the filing of the I-751
I think but we have kept absolutely everything including airline ticket
receipts.
I'm so very happy for you and Jim to be finally having it all over with. I am
sure both of you are greatly relieved. I hope you won't be leaving us in the
N/G when it's over. Your help and advice has been priceless to me and to my
husband. Each time I've posted a question or concern you've been a wonderful
source of information. Alvena has also been fantastic but I don't see her
postings much anymore......I haven't been checking as much as I used to though.
I hope she's ok.
So, we will download the info from the INS site and begin the process as soon
as we are able to.
Please accept our good wishes for your application.....I'm certain things will
go your way! Keep us posted!
Best of Luck!!
Joan

Hi everybody,

Bas & I haven't been on this group in a long time but we're back! We also
have a baby boy named Sean (well he just turned 2!) We have been married
since Oct., 1999 and Bas received his conditional residency green card in
Feb., 2001 so he will file for citizenship this November (90 days before
Feb., 2004). We also found out he can be a dual citizen thanks to a new
Dutch law that went into effect his April.

Good luck to everyone else filing for citizenship.

Gefeliciteerd met de geboorte van jullie zoon!
and good luck with the dual-citizenship path.
We are right behind you with Klaas filing 12/03.
