Re: anyone with pending N400 oath ceremony
Yes, some news finally. After waiting for over 6 weeks to hear from
the CIS, I made a trip to the district office. After a long wait, I
was seen by the adjudicating officer. He said that my name check
results have been received but my fingerprints have expired. So he
asked me to get new ones taken and come back in two weeks for further
adjudication of the case. Hopefully, this will be the last step before
the oath.

Sounds fishy. Why are they making you to come back? What else
they want from you?

I went back to the district office this morning. They said the
fingerprinting results were in and I should come back for the Oath
Ceremony on Monday 02/02.
I may have confused some people with my last post. I followed up with
the CIS six weeks after the FBI cleared my name check. However, it
has been one year since my interview.
Shaky, the name check was cleared by the FBI on 12/09 and was received
by the CIS on 01/04...

Re: anyone with pending N400 oath ceremony
I moved some time back, so my file was transferred. These two visits
were to the district office where my file currently resides (Seattle).
I met different adjudicating officers on the two visits to the Seattle
office. My guess is that they have designated officers who handle
inquiries each day. They find your file based on your A number and
then adjudicate your case. So, it does not have to be the officer who
interviewed you.
Of course, walk-ins have to wait for a long time. I waited outside in
a queue (braving the Seattle weather) for over an hour. A
representative was calling people from the queue one by one, and
asking for the purpose of the visit. I explained that I had a N400
status inquiry, so I was given a number and asked to wait inside.
Status inquiries have very low priority. After a long wait, I was seen
by another member of the staff, who looked at my case on the computer,
saw that the name check was done, and asked me to wait again for an
adjudicating officer to call me. I think he then pulled out my file
and sent it to one of the officers for review.
But, in the end, I am glad my efforts paid off. The early morning
commute, taking the time off from work, high parking rates, the long
wait in the cold - everything seems trivial now compared to the one
year of waiting and hoping for a letter to the Oath ceremony to arrive
in the mail...

Name check status can be checked by calling the FBI Name Check
Department at 202-324-3000 during business hours. When someone answers
the call, request to be transferred to the Name Check Department. I
called when about nine months had gone by since the interview.
The FBI staff is extremely courteous. Many of us on this board have
been pleasantly surprised by their responsiveness.

I agree about FBI being nice and polite.

jaytee...
Thank you friend.. for ur post...
u are right about the timings... perhaps 2 years is the deadline for uscis... maybe not... but i like ur idea of seting the time of wait to march or april. it definitly should NOT be on day to day basis.
i guess thats why i am getting so much frustrated everyday.
i will forget about it till april. my congresswoman has my case if i get lucky maybe i will be shocked to get oath letter in mail... but other than that..i am recieving my oath letter in the end of may2004.
thanx.

I don't think there is a 2-year timeline
jaytee. Shaky has his namecheck done,
he should go for a WM.

Mine took 1 and 2/3rd of a year. They seemed to have a terrible backlog at all the major offices while they were processing my case and it seems they are backed up even more now. You're right about where I was after waiting 8 months after the interview. Try to think of it as you are going to get your letter or a notice before the end of March or the middle of April and not a day to day thing for everyday frustration. From looking at the timelines, it is rare for it to take over 2 years and my guess is that the BCIS clears house of all cases that are approaching the end of the 2 year "time guideline for this type of case."

How do we know that the name check is the only check? Maybe, they are waiting for replies from other agencies as well...
