USA Careers 2010+... what would you do?
Situation:
You currently work full-time, have little or no savings but want a new career jumping onto the next big thing.
What would you look to do?
(or is that just a dream?!)

Do I have the qualifications to start the new career? If not, I look into night classes to get them. DH is currently doing some online training to become a realtor.

Perhaps I could better re-phrase...
"What's the next big thing for the US Economy that us Expats can cash in on?!"

Something 'green' eg. manufacturing or installing solar panels?
OTOH my friend bought a new toy poodle for her daughter and a few days before Christmas tried to book the dog in at a grooming salon. She was told that there was a 3 month wait-list! She's now thinking that perhaps she should start up a mobile dog-grooming business!

Ahhh you aren't asking people what they would do, but looking for suggestions of what you can do to make a fortune.
Perhaps a look through the current financial newspapers, magazines, website, etc. is in order. A little first hand research would be a good thing.

Hmmm ... the average age of a dentist in the US is 50. I predict a growing demand in the future.

She's starting my training as a Dental assistant in 2 weeks - Then after a couple of years I'm hoping to start my EFDA (enhanced function dental assistant) training if it all goes well....
Apparantly now alot of these older dentists are starting to retire, and younger ones are taking over there is going to be more demand for assistants as the newer dentists appreciate the value of them more than the retiring ones.....
My boss has no intentions of retiring any time soon which is great!

We are hiring lots of nurses, and apparently there is a big shortage.

i need to get myself a job in a few years once kids are gainfully occupied in school. Dont see me walking into a role like I had in the UK - so i am interested in whats in demand as i could take the opportunity to 're-invent myself' lol.

Anything that can't be outsourced and that is somewhat protected by having to have a license to practise would be good. Along with doctor, dentist, and nurse, that would include plumbers and electricians.

Open up an ammunition plant....there is still a huge shortage of small arms ammo, I don't see demand going away any time soon!
