Further to my last update, here are a few photos from our first few months in Broken Hill. Hope you like them, not sure the list below will correspond perfectly but you'll get the idea!
  • Plane on the ground at the Moomba oil and gas field
  • Tibooburra International Airport
  • On the ground at a remote clinic site
  • Wild dingo pups at another rig in Queensland
  • On final approach to the Ballera oil and gas field

I'll try and pop a few more up in a minute or two

I think the Flying Dr. service does an amazing job.

We were on an outback trip a couple of years ago, and travelling from Birdsville to somewhere, I can't remember.
Came across a lone motor cyclist who had come off his bike and was injured.
Flying Dr. alerted, we had a Dr. with us, so moved the cyclist into our small bus, drove 1 1/2 hours to the nearest property, F Dr flew in and patient flown to hospital.
Really bought home the need for the F Dr. and the vastness of the country.
We lived in Africa as well so again know what an invaluable service it is.
A big thanks to every one involved, we support them at local charity events, you never know if you might need them yourself one day.

thanks for that. It is a hugely rewarding job, extremely challenging at times... the medicine is largely the same as the UK but the extra parameters you have to factor into each job (fuel load, weather, pilot hours, airstrip condition, availability of lighting, refuelling etc etc) make it far more complicated at times. The real heroes out here though are the locals who are tough as nails and the remote clinic nurses who usually provide the first response and hold the fort until we arrive. they are incredible and their massive contribution and commitment to patient care often goes unacknowledged.
