Our Five Year Update
So Steve and I have now been here over 5 years. Our daughter that emigrated with us is now 9 and has a brother 3 and a sister nearly 1.
Everything started OK, got our heads into jobs and daughter started school, bought a house at Oxenford, never really felt settled due to lack of friends, due to lack of going out, due to lack of money. Steve had issues with work so set up a security business which looks to be finally finding it's feet after 3 very long hard years. I set myself up doing family day care from home, which I love doing but it means I have isolated myself as I will never have any workmates. Still can't get out to meet people due to the kids, do have a couple of good friends but one has just moved away and the other has no young kids so can go out whenever. Making friends and finding time to socialise to get to know people is definately the hardest thing about emigrating. On the flip side, we have a home in a great area that we can't compare to the terraced council house we had in England. On my day off I can nip off to the beach, park, Broadwater or themeparks without caring what the weather is like, and without having to pack up the house and take it with us as we are now just down the road rather than a couple of hours drive. My kids are not growing up in a dismal country and they walk around smiling. Would I consider moving back?....nope |

There must be lots of mums that feel isolated, I know my friend who has just had a baby said one mum organised coffee morning for the new mums and my friend looks forward to it. Its great you have started your own business, being your own boss - I would love to do that but don't have the skills to enable me to do it nor the finance:o You seem to have done really well. |
