Re: Our first 3 weeks in Perth
We are coming over like you with nothing, Any good furniture shops that you know off I would be greatful of the tips. It would save us having to look around as much.
So glad you wrote your thread because we were worried about a rental. Did you need 2 references to rent as this is our first rental and will only have one reference. Thank you so much Joy |

Hi all,
Good to hear such a positive story, hope all goes as well for everyone else. We are going out to Perth May-Aug 08, depending on house sale etc. Not sure where we want to be but have friends in Duncraig, so will probably land somewhere in that area. Have girls 11 and 9 and so schools priority. Any suggestions from peeps????? All seem quite good, not had any bad reports at all. My kids are both sporty especially gymnastics, does anyone know of any clubs? or schools that are geared up for sport really well?? Any info useful Thanks Jayne We started looking at schools last year and then when we visited we checked them out along with the catchment areas. The schools will provide a map of the catchment areas for you and there is plenty on net too. Good luck and if you need any help with anything...just Pm me:) |

THIS SOUNDS SO POSITIVE - THANKS FOR LETTING US KNOW ABOUT HOW THINGS ARE ONCE YOU ARRIVED. WE ARE HOPEFULLY GOING TO BE IN ROCKINGHAM/SAFTEY HARBOUR FEB/MARCH 08 - NAVY TRANSFERE. DO YOU KNOW OF THESE PLACES - ARE THEY NICE? WE HAVENT BEEN THERE BEFORE, BIT ITS GOTTO BE BETTER THAT HERE. WE HAVE TWO GIRLS 9 & 2.
IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH FLIES? I READ A BLOG EARLIER AND THEY SAID THAT THE BEST BIT ABOUT ROCKINGHAM IS THE BEACH & THE FLIES ARE A PAIN IN THE AR**!. FLO |
Re: Our first 3 weeks in Perth
Thanks for that. Reading your posting made me smile as I could feel your enthusiasm.
I've lived in Perth since 1989................came over at that time, with my now, ex-wife, and two small children. We divorced about 3 years ago, ...........but I've had sole-care of my son, now 20, who still lives with me....................from his early teens. Even when things come from left-field..............unpleasant things............at no time, do I feel like running 'home'. I've read posts of Perth being boring................but it depends what you're looking to find..............and it's been good to me. I found what I was looking for...................as it feels homely. If I had a choice of being transported back to the job and house I had in the North of Scotland, or sleeping under a tree in Kings Park, I'd opt for the tree. I'm sure it would still be a lot warmer!!!! Seriously, there are much worse places you can be............and the opportunities are endless. Look, I don't know if it's progress or not............but I now have two mortgages. lol I'm proud of where I come from, love Scotland and Scottish people.............but my life now, is here. I wish all of you who are here...........or contemplating coming here, all the very best. Seize that opportunity.....................and you can buy me a beer when you arrive. I'm Scottish, remember.............so don't expect one in return. |

Hi everyone
We are Sarah (teacher) and Jason (HGV) Perth is FANTASTIC, we are totally loving it here. We arrived at midnight on 25th July, feeling very tired and emotional, immigration and quarantine were a bit daunting but it was good to see its taken seriously here not like Uk, who will let anyone in. We only had 4 suitcases and 2 hand luggage between us and no we did not ship anything over. We had booked a hire car from Hertz and when we went to pick it up we got upgraded for no extra cost, which was really cool as we were planning to sleep in the car until the morning and now we had a more comfortable nights sleep. The next morning we drove around until it was time to check into the caravan park. We were amazed at how clean and tidy everywhere was. The caravan park we stayed in was in Hazelmere, Midland, a bit to close to the airport but it was cheap and suited us fine. We spent the first week sorting out Medicare and tax codes, and looking at areas we wanted to live in. Jason started emailing companies straight away and I started to sort out my paperwork to be able to teach in Wa. By Friday Jason had already had 2 interviews, by Monday he had been offered a job, we couldnt believe it we had only been here 10 days!! He started work the following Monday, so we only had a week to find somewhere more permanent to live. We spent ages on the internet and lookking in the paper, but there was just to much choicce - thats right loads of rentals so don't believe other posters there is not a shortage. We only looked at 1 property and fell in love with it. But we were told we would struggle because we had no references because we had not rented before. So we contacted 2 of our old landlords who said they would provide us with references. we gave there details to the rental agent who emailed them at 1pm Oz time so 7am UK time - thank fully they both responded straight away with brill refs. We got the house within 2 hours of handing in the application. Again we couldnt believe our luck. We moved in at the weekend and the furniture arrived Monday + Tuesday and because we did not ship anything we have brought everything brand new its like Xmas opening so many packages. Everything we have brought here has cost far less than in Uk, even the car a 3 yr old Toyota Corolla about 6500 pounds we would not have been able to buy that in the Uk. We are so much better off here in OZ and loving it. For anyone who has doubts YOU DONT NEED TO Oz is all you expect and far more. If we can help anyone with there move in any way please dont hesitate to ask, we used a lot of the advice off here so about time we gave some back I think.:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: Lovely to hear that everything is going great.
