Our first 3 weeks in Perth
 

Hi everyone
We are Sarah (teacher) and Jason (HGV)
Perth is FANTASTIC, we are totally loving it here.
We arrived at midnight on 25th July, feeling very tired and emotional, immigration and quarantine were a bit daunting but it was good to see its taken seriously here not like Uk, who will let anyone in.
We only had 4 suitcases and 2 hand luggage between us and no we did not ship anything over. We had booked a hire car from Hertz and when we went to pick it up we got upgraded for no extra cost, which was really cool as we were planning to sleep in the car until the morning and now we had a more comfortable nights sleep. The next morning we drove around until it was time to check into the caravan park. We were amazed at how clean and tidy everywhere was. The caravan park we stayed in was in Hazelmere, Midland, a bit to close to the airport but it was cheap and suited us fine.
We spent the first week sorting out Medicare and tax codes, and looking at areas we wanted to live in. Jason started emailing companies straight away and I started to sort out my paperwork to be able to teach in Wa.

By Friday Jason had already had 2 interviews, by Monday he had been offered a job, we couldnt believe it we had only been here 10 days!! He started work the following Monday, so we only had a week to find somewhere more permanent to live. We spent ages on the internet and lookking in the paper, but there was just to much choicce - thats right loads of rentals so don't believe other posters there is not a shortage. We only looked at 1 property and fell in love with it. But we were told we would struggle because we had no references because we had not rented before. So we contacted 2 of our old landlords who said they would provide us with references. we gave there details to the rental agent who emailed them at 1pm Oz time so 7am UK time - thank fully they both responded straight away with brill refs. We got the house within 2 hours of handing in the application. Again we couldnt believe our luck. We moved in at the weekend and the furniture arrived Monday + Tuesday and because we did not ship anything we have brought everything brand new its like Xmas opening so many packages. Everything we have brought here has cost far less than in Uk, even the car a 3 yr old Toyota Corolla about 6500 pounds we would not have been able to buy that in the Uk. We are so much better off here in OZ and loving it. For anyone who has doubts YOU DONT NEED TO Oz is all you expect and far more.
If we can help anyone with there move in any way please dont hesitate to ask, we used a lot of the advice off here so about time we gave some back I think. :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

We are wanting to come to Perth, we came over Feb this year and fell in love with the place just like you:wub: Where are you staying? What are the schools like there? we have two children 11 AND 9 so schools are the important factor for us. Glad to hear everything is falling into place for you both, congrats:thumbsup:

Lovely to read your post - really positive, and for us with daily wobbles about emigrating we need to read those positive posts!

I joined this forum especially to reply to you as we're planning on moving to WA (probably further south though) and I am a teacher too. I'm really interested in the process that you go through to enable you to teach in WA. It seems like a palaver when you look online and I'd be really grateful if you'd keep posting your experiences with applying and finding a job etc.

Best of luck with the next few weeks - hope it's all as positive as the first three!!

hi great to know that you enjoy Perth we will hopefull be joining you in march if all goes well
the advice we were given for schools was Kinross this is where we stayed when on our holiday and this was very nice area so was butler and somerly and also ocean reef
kinross has primary school and secondary school across the road all very nice

Hi all,

Good to hear such a positive story, hope all goes as well for everyone else.

We are going out to Perth May-Aug 08, depending on house sale etc.

Not sure where we want to be but have friends in Duncraig, so will probably land somewhere in that area. Have girls 11 and 9 and so schools priority.

Any suggestions from peeps????? All seem quite good, not had any bad reports at all. My kids are both sporty especially gymnastics, does anyone know of any clubs? or schools that are geared up for sport really well??
