One year on

Hi all

Just a quick catch up. Well we have been here for one year today and totally settled and enjoying all Australia has to offer. After arriving in Brisbane for our first trip to Australia with just our cases, no jobs, no where to live and with two GSD's on the way, we have never looked back.

We rented for 6 months and have now bought a house with pool, spa and a great view. Like alot of people say work is long hours we leave home at 0650 and get back at 1815, but all is worth it for the warm evenings and fantastic weekends.

People are great, work colleagues are a pleasure to work with, food is fresh and the beer is cold. Have a koala or two in the trees outside the house, big lizard on Sunday baking in the sun.

Brisbane is a fantastic city, clean lively and friendly.

Our daughter is settled in school and getting a good education, the dogs have settled in well and enjoy the fortnightly hydrobath. No problem with ticks etc you just keep replacing the tick collars and feeding the monthly worm pills.

What a great place, if you have concerns about coming here, dont, all will work out, you just have to work for it like anywhere else.

Enjoy

Re: One year on

Your thread is a bit of reassurance to my wife and I, as we're now virtually at the stage of no return (The house sale completes in a week, money transfer arranged and agreed for end of October, most things sold etc, shipping company coming this week to price up moving stuff... etc etc).

We have friends who are in Pacific Pines and are returning after only 3 months so it's kind of knocked us for six a bit and questioned whether we're doing the right thing. But, as I said to my wife, we weren't moving to Brissy because our friends were there, we were going because we loved what we saw when we were there, and just because it didn't work for them, doesn;t mean it won't work for us.

Good luck and may your good new life continue.:D

Dave

You hit the nail on the head, you work hard , you play hard.
If people think its all on a plate here, they are wrong.
Well done

Nice update, glad you've settled so happily :D

Just had idea for a post to keep your dogs safe from ticks etc, what about a thread of additional things you need to do in Oz as opposed to the yearly boosters and worming here........??

Always great to read a positive post especially for those of us just about to take the plunge. We leave London 6th October and will be arriving in Brisbane 13th October for our new life. Hubby will be starting work on the 15th, so no rest for the wicked. We are hoping to settle around the Bayside area, we have 2 boys ages 10 and 8 (dont be frightened, they're not too bad) so if anyone fancies meeting up do let me know. ;)
