first month in adelaide
hello thought it was about time i wrote a little update. We arrived on 2nd july and weather wasnt too bad but we were in for a suprise!! My rellies greated us at the airport and took us to our holiday let in henley beach and we laughed as they had gloves and hats on, we were not laughing for long!! It soon became aparent it is freezing in adelaide in winter, and we have had plenty of rain!!
We bought a car in a couple of days and also found a nice rental in seaford near beach with a pool!!! Chris found a job after 2 weeks and started today and i began my job at Ashford, some things are much better in nursing others not but my manager is excellent. alex has also started nursery.
Things are not as cheap as we imagineed but its not too bad, we did alll usual stuff like medicare, tfn, etc. The medicare system is great i have already had to be reffered to a consultant and was seen 10 days after refferal and it only cost me $18 with bulk billing including seeing gp!! Plus i have a date for a test i need doing which is 6 weeks away so very impressed. Its so clean here, the people are friendly, beaches beutiful as is the hills. We loved mc clarenvale and would love to live there but its a bit far for work.
We've seen kangaroos, koalas, dolphins, been wine tasting, the food here is fab and all this makes up for the crap drivers (they are appalling and no mots means lots of wrecks on the road).
Finally we have also put some land on hold, its looking like we will be building our own house too at the point in noralunga whixh is 5 mins from beach and is a much cheaper option for us than buying an established home.
Watch this space on that one!!Some things arent as i imagined, its vey commercialised and i miss my mum and best friend alot. But anyone reading this..id say go for it!!!

Glad it's working out for you and you seem to be enjoying your new life so far-hope this continues.
Not long for us now we fly in 15 days- so much to do, so little time....
At the moment just dreading and keep thinking of the goodbye's to family, but just hope it's worth it, reading posts like yours lifts the spirits as you wonder are you doing the right thing, although we'll never know unless we try!

Doent time fly over here.We rented a furnished rental in Dover Gardens for the first three weeks and then finally settled for a yearly rental in South Brighton. Walking distance to the loverly Brighton beach
. We didn't manage to find one with with a pool ,but believe me we looked everyday and travelled all over Adelaide looking. Jack started Brighton High school last week which is where we wanted him to go originally and after inspecting the school, feel it was defiantley the right decision to make. It has been recommended so many times by the locals and by people I have spoken to on here. It puts UK schools to shame. The facilities are amazing it makes me want to go back to school.
Sam our youngest was unfortunatly one street away from the zone for the local Primary school
. I really tried to get him in, I even rang Department of Education to see if I could appeal. All the schools walking distance were full, so I have to drive him to a school in Dover gardens. It only takes a few minutes but its crossing to the other side of the road at 8.30 in the morning, it is a nightmare!. The main roads here are so busy. I agree the drivers are appalling and can't believe the cars only need Regos to be on the road!.Lee started work straight away, thought he would try as he doesnt have his licence and they wanted him to start the next day on full pay!!!.Great news but meant I had to sort EVERYTHING out with two kids . So much to do when you arrive but we have finally got on top.
Shame about the weather. It hasn't stopped raining since we arrived. I agree about the temperature. I was hoping it would be warmer as I left most of my winter things behind. Sunglasses are a must though, even if it is a little chilly, when the sun does shine it is lovely. Looking forward to the Summer.

MY MATE from the english section in Coles is Marmite, I think it was $4.30 for a small jar.
