8 years on .....
Well where did the time go. I started on this forum over 10 years ago now .
What can I say this is my way of life now, I am Australian, will always be English, but I just believe that my footprint has started over and in all fairness without being morbid. I will be buried here in an Australian grave, my daughter is a real Australian, proper Queenslander. She hates to cold. loves having her togs on and eats vegimite wraps for lunch. And for being 4 she can swim and dive in, the little QLD fish . My husband and I have been together has a couple longer here than in the UK.
As this has happened I have started to compile my family tree for my daughter so she knows where she came from.
Its not really an update just an insight to life now. When I see UK TV from now I don;t recognize anyone, but get a warm feeling when I do and reminisce.
I still do very much miss the British sense of humour but a get a dose with my pommy friends. I also do British food nights etc.
We have a house jobs, kids in school and much savvier with our money. One thing I like about Australia is the financial system, the strategies for wealth creation are much better, tax wise.
We love it here will never go back, I am planning retirement though (yes at 38) and would love to buy a property in Hawaii or Ibiza to spend winter .... I girl can dream .
I believe like our fore fathers if you embrace the place and give it a fair go, eyes open and give it s shot you could be happy.
We live like in the UK Up in the morning walk dogs at the beach, go to work, gym, beach home BBQ.
Sometimes though it is that hot that walking is not an option
I have been homesick a few times over the 8 years and would love my mum to be here, but it was my choice to move so they cannot bring Rome to me.
I have lots of friends and we are very social, husband has just got his builders licence to upgrade his life. I have a good job with a bank locally close to my daughters new big school.
Most of all spiritually and emotionally I am at home here its is now where my hear belongs.

Congrats on reaching your 8 year mark! We are about to reach our 2 years, next month, where has the time gone!? Love it here though, very happy, Australia is now my home, yet I still refer to Northern Ireland as home too, no idea why, but one day that may change, we'll see. Going back for a holiday in March, so that will be interesting, if nothing else!
