6 YEARS?
only seems like half that. Time has flown since we arrived in Sydney and I just cant work out where it all went. I'm still trying to get over the fact that we are nearly in April this year already. Its been a really busy year so far. Most of the year has been spend renovating the house and not so much socializing, something had to give lol At the start of the year we were really looking forward to the months ahead. Paulines sister in Port Douglas had spent a lot of time down here and it was fantastic to have kids around. Paulines brother was arriving in September, so the renovations were sped up. We were working like mad and enjoying tweaking out little home again. Most of my spare time was taken up with football , golf and the odd meet. Paulines brother arrived for a month, then he was heading to his others sister in Port Douglas. We had a fantastic time while he was here. I've known him that long hes more like a younger brother. Pauline had taken a month off work to spend more time with him. It was hard for us all to watch him leave, but he assured us that he would return more often. He headed north and wasn't there long before Paulines brother in law fell seriously ill. It turned out to be lucky that he was there. He helped paulines sister with the kids when she needed it most. I'm sure he got much closer to the kids because of this than he would have just on a visit. The time he spent was mostly taken up with helping out his sister. As he planned to return to the UK Paulines parents announce that they would be heading out her to help out. They spent about 6 or 7 weeks up there while Paulines brother in law recovered. They arrived at ours early December. It was great to see Pauline enjoying her parents company. She was loving spending unexpected time with them. They headed off before Christmas and we looked forward to my sister and her man arriving in the week between Christmas and new year. Pauline had taken two weeks off for Christmas and new year (her first in 10 years) so we could make the most of the festive season. On Christmas morning we headed to the beach with lovely friends and their families. It felt like Christmas this year even in the heat. I think it was more to do with Pauline being off and we had all the family together. A couple of days later my sister arrived with her husband (I've known him so long hes more like my big brother) we had waited so long for them to return after visiting us in Sydney. Everything was going great. I had booked my trip to fly to NZ to visit my brother early January. We had been doing the usual touristy stuff you do when family arrive. Then BANG! We get that call from the UK everyone dreads (i wont go into details) but we were devastated. We tried to hold it together as much as possible for our visitors, but it was hard. We spent new year with my family and lovely friends in Brissie for the bells, that took our minds off things for a few hours. I was booked to go to NZ and Pauline headed back to the uk. NZ was fantastic (I'm sure theres photos on here somewhere). It was the first time i had visited my brother and will be returning first chance i get. On returning home we tried to settle back into normal life. I took the opportunity of heading to brissie for a curry night and had a great laugh, the following week it was a curry night on the coast and a golf day out with the brissie lads. Pauline had won a holiday on the sunshine coast so we headed up there about a month ago with lovely friends. We were in brissie again last week to welcome the newest Aussies Bobby and Linda. Last week Pauline received her first new car since arriving in oz so she is over the moon at the mo. Its been a huge year for us as a family and we have taken some huge kicks and managed to get up again. I just hope the rest of the year isn't too eventful I would just like to thank all of our close friends who have really helped us this year. You people are stars and we will never forget the support you have given. Oh and a wee Ps. Pauline has decided to head up to visit her sister in July, so it looks like another Port Douglas meet this year, bring it on! the other 5 |

I know the family has been through a lot of highs & lows (more of the later) and because of the strenghth of the family unit have survived. Respect to you all (especially Pauline), and hope the next 12 months is a bit quieter. Steve & Debs |

Re: 6 years
We have the pleasure of knowing Robert, Pauline & family for the last three and half years. We don't think we will ever meet a stronger family bond that you guys have.
The last 6 months have been very hard on you all, especially Pauline, but with the support you all have for each other helps you get through the sad time. Our best wishes to you all for the months ahead. Paul, Annette & Jess |
