Default 3 years almost

We arrived in Brisbane on 23rd Dec 04, me hubby and 3 month old son, no house, no car, no jobs, no clue where to live just us and cash in the bank and a container with our lifes possesions following.

Almost 3 years later, now with 3 year old and 1 year old, we are Australian Cititzens and are very happy on 5 acres West of Brissie. We got a car and hubby got a job, we spent our cash on the car and house !

Just in process of building visitor cottage next to house for all the visitors and rellies that come/want to come out ;-)

No regrets we love it.

I rememebr the 18 months in the UK waiting for the visa and it was always good to see some positive posts from people already in OZ made us feel there was light at the end of the tunnel. I say one thing to all of you not here yet tho' there will be ups and downs so prepare yourself ;-) but as long as you keep the vision of where you want to be in life then you can make it happen if you keep plodding along towards it. Thanks for the nice comments about the blog and kids, the blog really helps overseas friends and rellies stay in touch and those who cant travel here really really appreciate it.

Hi Vicky

OT a bit, but - How have you found getting approval for a second residence on your land from council?

has been tricky, but we are now almost there, have had to go for a full approval rather than a small one ie for an extenstion or patio as the granny house is over 70m2, appears all council ahve different reg so Brissie varies to ipswicha nd our bulider is ipswich so he didnt get it right first time. So it has cost more than we first thought but it all happening which is main thing
think it depends on which council, the size of granny house and the size of your land and how close it is to your main place and your neigbours basically, so will be different for everyone who builds one

we are out west, ipswich way on acerage, tho we too rented when we first got here, then bought but suberbia wasnt for us, (nor was the huge expat community around us (not that we dont like the brits but we just wanted to meet some ozzies !!!)) so we moved 2 monhts ago.I found it dead easy to makek friends here tho the kids, playgroups, daycare, swimming lessons etc. Kids just seem to give you an automatic social life, hubby found it harder just at work.
So dont think you'll find it hard to meet new folks, we foudn the majority of folk we've met really welcoming.
