2 years in Redlands!
Wow......nearly 2 years....I cannot believe it! I was a Feb '07 applicant.....once upon a dream!
I am sat on our sofa, in our home in Redlands Queenslands......I still need to pinch myself sometimes.....like when we see a koala a the kids school, or when the kids are enjoying chasing Soldier Crabs on the beach, having un on a surf beach, or just chillin' with the neighbours over a glass of local wine......can really reccommend Sirromet......and a Barbie! The last 2 years have gone so quick, When we first arrived in a blurr of 13 suitcases and 5 pieces of hand luggage, we were so lucky to be met by our life savers, our Uk friends' sister.......who we had only met once before, jus for a hour! She is a saint, as is her partner. They took us in to their home and their hearts.......They have become the family we do not have here. We stayed with them or 2 weeks, while we sorted out furnishing our rental, which we had sorted out from the Uk. After that e had 2 weeks until Christmas! It was the strangest Christmas ever. My husband hated Australia, and wanted to go home, the kids missed the big family Christmas dinner, and I felt like I had dragged everyone to the therside of the world, and was the worst mum inthe world.......and so began the rollercoaster. I started work at the Mater in South Brisbane, the kids started school, all seemed to be going ok. But m hubby still hated it, and was very homesick. This as so hard, after a lot of soul searching we decided that having our own home would help. Almost without even looking we found our wonderful home! Perfect for us, 4 beds and room for a pool, which we have now put in. And even better, I got a job at the Mater in Redlands.....5 mins from home. I feel so at home here......I have met some lovely peolple and made some great friends, although I still desprately miss my Best Mate Wendy, back in the UK. The kids enjoy school and our doing loads more than they ever woud have been able to do in a tiny village school in the UK. My husband now has a job, and is starting to feel a bit more settled. Life is just different, but the same if that makes sense. We still work to pay the mortgage, and kids still go to school. But we enjoy the beaches, the theme parks, the camping, and the outdoor life in general. Do I regret the move....hell no! At the present time we don't plan to ever move back to the UK , but 5 years ago I would never had dreamed We would be living on the other side of the world! So never say never............but it has been an amazing experience.......not just the living here, but the whole emigrating experience. OMG to those still with me after this long waffle............thank you. I may post more another time....this is definately enough for now! Loux:D |

Could I ask please(if you know)....how long is the commute between Redlands and the Mater in Brisbane? Also are the Private Mater Hospital Pay rates the same as the Public ones? JOHN |

Must agree the Redlands is a great place to live and fantastic for families we love it here:thumbsup:

We like Redlands too, in cleveland at mo, but after xmas we might try it over that way!! Its all lovely round here :thumbup:

JOHN From Victoria Point to Stones Corner for example, which is only 4 km short of the Mater Hospital, takes about 40-45 minutes when leaving Victoria Point at 7am. But a bit over 1 hour when leaving at 8am. Going by train would be about 1 hour from Cleveland, with a short walk from Vulture Street station. Start: Vulture Street Train Station, South Brisbane, QLD 4101 End: Mater Private Hospital 301 Vulture St, South Brisbane, QLD 4101 Distance: 0.6km |

Loux:D Enjoyed your post, done our 3 week reccie in Thornlands last December and spent alot of time looking at Redlands. Had dinner at Sirromet, just as the sun was going down. The food, the wine, the people, atmosphere etc was stunning. Just need the pound to strengthen, wife to love it as much as me and we'll be there as well:fingerscrossed: Thanks Danny |
