Default 2 n' a half week update - Redcliffe, Brisbane....

We landed after a LONG flight with Singapore airlines via a 36 hour stopover in Singapore. Couldn't 'really' fault the airline but much preferred the Emirates experience to Perth last year!

Singapore is pretty cool - recommend it to anyone for a short stopover - bit sticky though, so make sure you have some light, loose clothing to chuck on!

We had hired a car online so that we could drive from Brissie airport. 1 quick phonecall and a 15 minute wait and we were driven in a minibus to our car. Basic, cheap but did the job. Wouldnt really recommend the rental company - cras were on the verge of knackered, and they didnt refund us when we returned the car a week early.

Had booked into a short term rental on a campsite (a self contained chalet) for the first 3 weeks. Luckily they billed us by the week so didnt mind when we found a rental after the 1st week. wouldnt recommend this campsite either - run by a bunch of miserable baskets - got told off and threatened that we would loose our deposit unless I smoked at least 50 yds from the door! FFS!!

Anyway, we had planned on settling around the GC somewhere, so duly set off exploring different areas. Have to say, we found it to be a bit like Blackpool with sunshine! V. Tacky and not at all to our taste. Horses for courses n'all that, but just not us!

The next day we headed North. we had initially thought of Redcliffe as a possible, but were put off by reports of it being a bit of a retirement home. We swung by here anyway 'just for a butchers' and instantly fell in love with the place! Nice and quiet - very little evidence of hooning, beaches (OK, not quite SC quality but hey, what do you want!) A very nice little 'cafe culture' going on as well. So we set about looking at apartments. The first place we viewed, had 'it'. A brand new block, right on the ocean and Suttons Beach. Private gym, pool etc...etc.... we had heard stories of it being a bit of a mare getting a rental, not so in our case......t'was very very easy - pleasantly surprised!

The place is now furnished, thanks to a weeks 'HARDCORE' shopping and afeels like home - for now

Have been exploring a bit......the Sunshine Coast is ****ing stunning! Have made a pact with one another to get our arses up there within a couple of years....it offers the lifestyle we are looking for.

Otherwise life is good......once you get used to the aussie 'menana' attitude - which I am, admittedly, struggling a bit with!

We have bought 2 cars, C starts work on Monday and I start my HGV conversion training on the same day. No shortage of truckie jobs out here! Off to Bribie Island on Sunday with some BE members we have met. Gotta try out the new car in the sand - could be an interesting day!

Oh yeah, got my first Aussie spider bite yesters....was laying on some grass by the beach and got an almighty ****** sting....bit like a wasp sting but worse. Rang the doc's straight away and he assured me it was nothing to worry about. Still hurt liek hell though. Shoulder felt like it was paralysed for the rest if the day. No probs today though - proper tuff Aussie now!

Got everything sorted already, TFN, Medicare, banking etc.......just enjoying the 30 degree clear blue skys til reality kicks in and we have to start work!

Life is good......will update more in the future.....

Redcliffe is an area we're now considering for our move in the New Year after speaking to a fellow BE member. Sounds like it could be just up our street and from your POV it sounds it.

May you continue to enjoy it!
