Dunno if anyone mentioned but the Mustard Seed connection was a dud. I'll check the place out sometime in the next 2 weeks - better not be a vegan joint.

Re: 12 months in Adelaide
My mother further astonished us today by announcing that she and her husband are buying us a 1.52kW grid-connected solar power system, to be installed in December. We'll still have to tighten our belts while I'm studying, but at least our electricity bills should start to come down a bit.
I don't want to rain on your parade but 1.52kW is pointless and will make virtually no difference to your power bill - an electric kettle uses 2.5kW. It's a lovely gift though.

Great updates Vash, keep them coming.
Can't believe your Mum, she looks so bloody young and I would not have put her in her 50's or even forties.

Cheers.
I know it's not much, but it's better than nothing. If we can get ~6kW a day from it, I'll be happy.
Don't talk to me about it! If I look as good as she does when I'm her age, I'll be delighted (and frankly astonished).

Re: 12 months in Adelaide
Got some more work done in Pup's room today. A previous owner had covered one of the walls with faux wood panelling (not sure why!) and a subsequent owner had slapped vinyl wallpaper over the top:
We're going to smooth it all down, cover it with brand new wood panelling (good quality stuff this time!) and paint it.
The green wardrobe is a DIY job from yet another previous owner. We won't remove it at this stage, because it's quite well built and very practical. It will look better with a fresh coat of paint.
The fourth wall had traditional wallpaper, which peeled straight off without any hassle:
It just needs a bit of touching up, then perhaps half an hour with a sanding block, and it will be ready to paint.

Re: 12 months in Adelaide
Picked up the car from my mate today. Turned out to be a '97 Commodore, which is a little younger than I'd expected.
Looks and feels a bit rough; aircon needs regassing, motor needs a major service and a tuneup. (I have christened it "The White Pig"!) Still, not bad for a free car.
Should save a bit of cash by running it on gas. My mate kindly left the tank half full.
