Istanbul is an astonishing place. Truly "The City Of The World's Desire", I remember walking around the old city on one of my visits and seeing the date "1314" on a doorway.

I'll be there in three months, really looking forward to it.

My interest in Turkey has always been somewhat diminished by my attachments to Bulgaria. Bulgarians generally have no love for Turkey. A look at this might explain why £ Mat 1878 is not so long ago !

Really?!? Your posts are hardly those of a genuine forum member so hardly surprising we suspect you're just another spammer. And the link in your post isn't even relevant to this discussion.
If you're genuine, then tell us about yourself. I see you're in Moldova, what brings you to a forum for British Expats?

Its Kalkan, or Surrey by Sea as it is often referred to. The population is made up of about 30% Brits, 10% Turks who are former expats, 10% others and 50% indigenous. in the summer the Brit contingent probable increases to 70%. Even the electrical stores in Kalkan sell British 3 pin appliances. When I first visited I used to speak Turkish as default now everybody speaks English by default. If it was not for the Greek architecture you would think you were in Guildford.

I came across this article which may be a bit dated but is interesting all of the same:
Turkey’s ‘Little Britain’ | Express.co.uk
