Holiday money questions.
I am going to be visiting Istanbul as a tourist the last week of May for two weeks ... In the past I have visited Thailand a couple of times and discovered that taking British currency there and then converting it to Bhat, gave me a slightly better rate of exchange than I got from converting my £ to Bhat in the UK.
[a] Will I get a better rate of exchange on cash (£) brought into Turkey, than converting £ to Lira in the UK? (Bring cash Y/N) I'm also going to be renting a car in Turkey for the two weeks, as I sometimes have to use a sports/lightweight wheelchair and have heard getting around using public transport, is a lot of hassle, and will be paying for that at Ataturk airport. [b] Do you advise me to bring Lira to pay the car rental firm, or pay them with a Debit or Credit card? (Cash or Card?) [c] I'm not sure what charges VISA will impose on me for anything I purchase in Turkey, and if it's cheaper to use a Debit or Credit card in Turkey. Any other advice on making the most of my money, would be most welcome! I'm not being a scrooge, it's just that as TESCOs say 'every little bit helps'! Sam. |
