all you have to do is get a foot thro the door and even if you dont like the job hang it out till you can get pr and move on you have enough driving experience for an employer to sit up and take notice have you driving in europe or just the uk all you can do is keep emailing companys every couple of wks to show how keen you are loblows were in the uk recruiting november just gone you could try them it also depends on what type of driving job you want as there is all sorts out here from box to flat deck cement and sand fuel etc a good thing to do is get letters off the companies you have worked for showing your driving experience with them so if you come over for a visit/holiday you have the proof and it might speed up your application time if you have them good luck

Yes I have driven most of Europe, (and Canada some 20 years ago ) had a gap for the last couple of years from mainstream driving due to taking on a management position away from logistics, but kept a foot in the door so to speak by helping a couple of firms out when needed, I am hoping this doesn't cause any major issue.

I've been thinking of a move to Canada as jobs in Uk are getting hard to find..I have class 1/2 ,ADR...I've worked mostly with the airlines as ground staff,I've studied and most on this forum and its been very informative..

not sure if its truth but you can get in to trouble by bringing all sorts of certs and references with you, when entering Canada as a tourist.. I might be wrong.

Hi, I'm looking to come over to Canada with my wife and daughter. I don't mind putting in the hours and am willing to do what ever it takes to get to where me and the wife want to be. I have the Skype interview booked for Tuesday with a lady called Sandra, I'm looking forward to finding out more info. We have a house to sell in the uk but can't put it on the market untill I have a job offer. Do these company's in Canada understand this, unless you are a single person it is going to take time. What are the people like out there will my wife be able to make friends with other drivers wife's are people willing to help others or is it like the uk every 1 for them selves!

I'm still at least a year away from moving to Canada (delayed because of family issues) but I just wanted to point out here that your qualifications will mean largely nothing when you move to Canada...your experience is what will count as something.

I also have ADR for Tanks & Packages, Class 1 license, HIAB cert, Airside-clearance for Dublin, Manchester, Shannon and Heathrow, Counter-Balance fork lift cert, Manual Handling cert..(that's the one that qualifies you to pick up an empty box and place it carefully on a table!), Safe Pass cert..(that's the one that shows you know how to push a wheel-barrow safely for 5 yards), I also have FETAC level 3 Oxy-Acetylene welding and FETAC level 5 in ARC, MIG and TIG welding...including specialist cert in aluminium.
I'm sure somewhere I also have a badge that was originally sewn on my swimming trunks for achieving 50 lengths of the pool at Aberystwyth Leisure Centre...but alas all this means absolutely nothing in Canada.

You will need to take a new test to get a license to drive a truck in Canada and another test to carry hazardous goods...sorry to offer bad news, but I've found that the move is not as simple as we might hope it is...

Thanks for your reply although i didn't mention any thing to do with qualifications! I know all about the tests and how much it's going to cost. I have been researching this for a couple months now. I asked what the people are like ie friendly or not and how much time it takes and do the company's wait for you to sell your property back in the uk. Obviously you can't just drop everything and go. I understand its like anything new you do in life you have to start from the beginning the rest comes with experience

Gasman realistically It will prob be 12 months untill we are ready to make the move. My wife is due to give birth in 5 weeks and I'm not going to move them to Canada untill I know there both fit and well enough to make the journey. I have explained this to the company and they still wanted me to fill application form in and send relivant documents. To begin with I filled in a online enquiry form and never expected to be contacted the following day

Ah that sound all good then, you're on track, (I was just having a bit of fun really ), I should be on track too but I lost my Mum in January and it's hit like being hit by a high speed train, I'm still trying to sort out the aftermath,..Good luck on your adventure.
