Truck Stops
Ok, so i should read properly before I post
Here goes.
Truck stops.
(USA)
http://www.pilotcorp.com/ ..............Pilot
http://www.loves.com/ ...................Loves
http://www.tatravelcenters.com ......TA
http://www.flyingj.com/ .................Flying 'j'
to name but 4.
You can get a little book from truck stops which lists states and Interstates and tells you which truck stops are at which exits along the way. VERY useful.
I always tried to get to a flying 'j' because I had a wifi account with them. $50 for 3 months I think it was.
(Canada)
There are a few Flying 'j's in Canada now. (Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, London)
Other main ones are Husky and Petro-can.
The only decent Petro-can I found is at Copperhead Rd in Kamloops.
Petro-can give you free showers just for having the petro-pass card.
Husky give you a free shower with 200L of deisel, but only at the one you fuel at because they're franchises.
I also liked to stop at 'The Gateway', a few miles East of kamloops. Free showers here too and a drivers lounge.
In general, other than Flying 'j', the Canadian truck stops are nowhere near as good as the US ones. but that's just my opinion.

Over here in eastern Canada (and Maine) we have Irving Big Stops, i can't get fuel there (i can but Co. doesn't like us to) but it knocks spots off the US truck stops.
In the US i can only fuel at the Hook so i take advantage of the free shower and the free beverage they call coffee?????

A driver I worked with out of Vancouver went to Halifax and realised he was now closer to his old home (glasgow) than his new home in vancouver.
Big old country.

Thanks for the info lads, I'll pass it on to Oh.
Do you have to pay at any of these truckstops like we do in the UK?

Re: Truck Stops
At a very few you have to pay to park but there are so many where it's free that you just leave and go to the next free one. You will soon learn where the pay ones are and avoid them.

Re: Truck Stops
Having said that, I've only done 29 states so far and all of it West of Virginia.

Thanks Andy & Koogar
Its pretty expensive to park up in the UK now, it varies between approx 8-15 quid.
