But the truth is long hrs low pay, Always as been and always will be , Fact is your a semi skilled worker starting a fresh in a new country and you will have work hard just to prove yourself, If you think you would be better off back in the UK well go back then and I bet you all the tea in China you will regret it , Things have gone dramatically downhill in the 12 months since I left and wont get any better for the foreseeable future. The ones that come across here and start moaning seem to have very short memories and would probably moan wherever in the world they are. Just my opinion :) |

Re: sumone uk Interview aug?
I really can't see what the issue is here.
Most people go to drive trucks in Canada as a way to get into Canada. You only have to do it for a couple of years, get your PR and then you can go breed Llamas, or paint teapots, or whatever your dream career is. Personally, I made as much money driving trucks in Canada as I did when I was driving trucks in the UK. Granted, I was away from home, which in my case didn't matter as I went to Canada on my own anyway, but if it's always been your dream to live in Canada, 2 years trucking is a small price to pay to achieve something you wouldn't otherwise be able to do. Incidentally, the longest I was away from Saskatoon, other than when it was my own choice, was 12 days. If you don't feel that the opportunity to live in Canada is worth 2 years driving a truck, stay in the UK. Pretty simple choice really. Good luck. |
Re: sumone uk Interview aug?
My problem is most peeps dont say it how it is,, Just skirt around the truck driving issues in ca,, Saying how lovely it is,,
But you hit the nail on the head hard gruelling work with long hours for 2yrs or so,,, Then the world is your oyster,,,, There is some really good well paid jobs once residency is done,, Like in calgary driving graders on the ridge/twp roads for 10 hr days $110,000 easy money and home each night doing 6am till 4pm,, monday to friday mick |

Re: sumone uk Interview aug?
You know what seems to get my back up with people posting and slagging stuff off on these forums - specifically about trucking in canada.
For all of those truck driving been there done it haters: Has it ever clicked in your little minds that ALOT of people are going to canada to drive a truck for 1 reason... and thats NOT MONEY!!! I'll explain: Im in the process of going over - hopefully in November. Do I think I will earn millions: Nope Do I think I will earn ALOT: Nope Do I think I will earn enough to survive: Yes Do I think it will be hard: Yes sometimes sure it will - JUST like it is in UK Do I work long hours currently driving in UK: Yes Do I think I will work long hours in Canada: Yes (are you ready... here's the main question) Do I think I will have a better lifestyle in Canada: Yes Theres people on here that moan on saying "they will tell you 4k a month but you'll only get 2k" etc etc - This is the only comment I have to say on that. And I ask you to be honest and if you wish to comment, answer true to yourself. Would you like to earn $4k per month and be fed up with your life etc (as I do in UK) OR would you like to earn LESS money BUT be happier? Its true about everything - the more you put in the more you get out. If there are people who specifically go over there to earn millions... then best of luck to you (ill come and visit you in your padded cell and bring cakes or something for you and your little flying fairy friends) If people are moving out there for a better quality of life - then those people I will be down the pub (on my days off) having a pint laughing about those in the padded cells arguing with the flying faries why they are not millionaires because they moved to canada! Sorry... just had to get my little rant out of the way! |

Best way for all UK drivers is to meet others in Canada and get friendships going, then your set as getting out and meeting others and forming that bond is important. |

Yes, this is a fact you will enjoy it more in Canada than UK that I can guarantee, the only negitive of UK drivers going and getting pissed off is they do get a little homesick, but if they tough it out and get over that little issue which is harder for some, then you will only return to the UK for a holiday.

See a USEFULL HELPFULL NICE post! Thanks alot :o) I feel I'm quite lucky about the homesick thing - ex forces so I am used to living in different countries and sometimes not seeing family for 1 - 2 years. And to be honest, im sure I won't be living in a desert in a tin shed, so the conditions are going to be better - which will hopefully shouldnt bother me in terms of homesickness. I agree though - EVERYONE will go through it at some point, and the best way to deal (i have found) is to make friends, enjoy yourself as much as possible (making bad jokes is my speciality) and the time will fly over! I'll be anyones friend and help where I can with homesickness - as Im sure most genuine, friendly people would! It can be hard at times... but there is always a cheezy joke in my little head which can always make me laugh! [thinks to self... apparently its wrong to laugh at own jokes.... hummmm.... dont care :oP ] For those who are suffering from homesickness - maybe this might take your mind off it for a few seconds... ------------------ A sailor meets a pirate in a bar, and they take turns telling each other about their adventures at sea. Seeing the pirate's peg-leg, hook, and eye patch, the seaman asks, "So, how did you get the peg-leg?" The pirate replies, "We were caught in a monster storm off and a giant wave swept me overboard. Just as they were pulling me out, a school of sharks appeared and one of them bit my leg off." "Blimey!" said the seaman. "What about the hook?" "Ahhhh...," said the pirate, "We were boarding a trader ship, pistols blasting and swords swinging this way and that. In the chaos my hand got chopped off." "Crickey!" remarked the seaman. "And how about the eye patch?" "A seagull dropping fell into my eye," answered the pirate. "You lost your eye to a seagull dropping?" the sailor asked incredulously. "Well," said the pirate, "it was my first day with the hook!" ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Sorry couldnt help it! :o) |
