Can I go out on a limb here and inject a related question? Is anyone else feeling the pinch from current "hiccup" in the global economy? I mean hours / miles reduction or longer waiting times etc...

My interest is purely selfish; I am about to start the 12 week Class 1 license course and I hoping there are still decent long haul jobs out there. (Andy, I have read that you have taken the same course at Masstown and I have gleaned you are now an O/O for Clarke... nes pas? I'm gonna have to pick your brain if you'll oblige. Maybe a few pints at Paddy's might help.)

This is my virgin post, so please be gentle with me.

Cheers,

M

Welcome. Take all the b/s with a bag of salt..... you will soon get to know who gives good honest advice.
I used to be an owner operator but not for Clarkes. I took a little break but i am just about to start a new job driving flatbed (starting Sunday)
I did also take the 12 week course at the Commercial Safety College and although it was expensive i think it was worth it.
I would still recommend being an O/O but ONLY if you own the truck outright or have payments that are less than $1500 p/m.
If you have any specific questions, fire away. you can ask here, pm me or call. i will pm you my number so you can call if you want to.
Good luck
Andy

Cheers Andy. I've looked into the O/O scenario, and I think I'll leave it until I've got a few miles under my belt and a few more 'reserve' dollars in the bank. I am a bit concerned though... what are you doing posting at 5am?! I hope the driving hasn't made you an insomniac.

I'll PM you later with butloads of Qs.
