That’s it – I am out of the UK (Getting far too expensive)

Wife and I have decided to get the hell out of the UK.

Taxes go up I worked a 6th day for a client and 70% went in tax  – Fuel keeps going up and I have a diesel which is 10% higher in prices than unleaded now local servo charging £1.33 a liter – got council tax which just went from £650 to £875 – National Insurance in past 12-months paid £5,280 that’s a rip-off and I just worked out that if I was in Australia or Canada I could have all the mod-cons for medical for ½ the price – food cost more the wife keeps asking for more cash every time we go shopping – even local Chinese take-out went up so that’s it.

To top it off, last night the townhouse people next door kept me awake all bloody night fighting and abusing each other.

Couldn’t sleep so spent night emailing, resume has been sent to 50+ firms all over Canada.

Stay tuned to this post, if I get offered a few positions will let others know who is employing.

Like I said, here due to my son and other 1/2 wanting to be close to him, however even he has had enough so thoe I was born here and like it a little when arrived back some 4 1/2 yrs ago, each day during this fiscal year is making me less worthy to be called a POMMY.

The country has a lot going for it and the away from larger locations are quite nice, now the bigger places are just a total congestion zone, like a massive car-park at times the UK Govt has no respect for the worker anymore the health system sucks the taxing scale sucks and there is little incentive to put the long hours in. When it comes to this there is a bitter taste to even get up in the mornings, so as I do have a MOTTO

(When you feel like your banging your head against a brick wall - its time to move on)

Have lived by that motto sine I got married 29-yrs ago and it has never let me down, so now Canada will be my next stop.

Just thinking while writing here about the things we had in Australia and can acheive with ease in Canada, larger house (Not a little BOX on the hillside) can talk and have sex without the next door folks hearing you, can park a car / truck in your driveway, not on the street in a permit zone and the young kids of the area decide to use the roof of ya car as a dance-floor can drive to the local shops in 5-mins not like here it takes longer to drive to local Redcar from me which is 5-miles and takes 1/2 hour can have a backyard with a BBQ and invite friend around for a good piss up here if you live in the area for 20-yrs your still considered an outcast.

Man I could go on and on.

Settle down Lisa, like you say, get the Pounds while you can as it worth double in Canada, thats my exact thinking.

Don't worry about Gremmie, he is just another ex pommy who is tramping throughout the USA and Canada trying to learn the lingo of the land, his words are at times direct but all in good fun.

Hope you don't mind me picking and choosing which parts to quote you from but the above is what cheeses me about the UK at the moment, but, and it's a big but, is it actually any better in Canada? The old grass is greener debate. Surely there must be problems in Canada which would/could cheese a hard working person off? What's their council tax equivelant and how much does it compare? I know wages are pretty much similar to here and hope the cost of living is lower, but what of hidden costs? Healthcare insurance? Food? Electricity? Speed Cameras? Road Tax? You get the idea.

The cost of living isn't the only reason I'm looking at Canada, but it certainly helps.
