Well, what did you see in the protests that appeared to be anti-US? Quite a few people at the one I attended (London) were waving United States flags.

My husband is 61 and going to college! After being unemployed for several years, he finally decided (after much prodding from me) that maybe retraining would help (his highest level of education is the Cambridge O Level from donkey's years ago). He's been in college 2 years now and will transfer to the University of Washington in the Fall to complete the final 2 years. As we are low-income by all standards, he is eligible for the Pell and Washington State Need Grants (requires residence in the State for one year), which cover all the tuition and books. When he enrolled he didn't really believe he'd get through the first quarter and now there's no stopping him! He got several job offers after 2-year program, but decided to do 2 more years. You seem to be articulate enough to post on here and are able to hold a discussion, so maybe all you are really lacking is self-confidence (just like my husband, who is probably at least 25 years older than you). I've pm'ed you in the past when you've asked about health insurance and the like in WA State, but I never heard back from you. My offer still stands though - I can help you with paperwork and the like, if you want. There are plenty of resources to help those that are willing to put in at least a little effort (and I don't mean that in a bad way).

True.... but what kind of jobs? Many with pay that wouldn't adequately support the modern family . I'm an angry Democrat. I see a massive failure on the part of the Democrat Party and the Obama administration to adequately fight for and protect the interests of the labour force. Hillary acted during the campaign as if the Presidency was a god given entitlement, all about breaking the "glass ceiling" instead of focusing on the issues that really matter as Bernie Sanders did during his campaign.

Job retraining is all very well especially for the younger age working force but what about the 50 something factory worker in Penn. or Ohio who spent 30 years of his life assembling engines for combined harvesters, good at his job and then suddenly that job goes south to Mexico. It's pretty hard for a man that age to have to learn something new that has no connection to his past job and let's be honest age discrimination in hiring does exist whether people want to believe that it doesn't. That 50 year old man will more than likely end up working for peanuts in Walmart or living on unemployment or whatever until social security comes along. Multiply him by a few million and there you have what ails many in America and which is why Trump stepped into the breach and gave it to the Dems up the arse.

The bbc.çom/news (which I assume is objective enough for you?) head line currently reads: "Women's March: UK protesters join anti-Donald Trump marches". It seems to rather under-play the supposed "global women's right" theme of the marches.

As others have said, it is also a bit of a first world problem - Americans have a democratically elected president voted for, among others, by tens of millions of women, which doesn't really seem to be on the same scale as the life-changing and life-threatening issues that women face in numerous countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, and numerous other countries many of them in India and Asia and the Middle East, and such profound things as access to education, basic healthcare, travel without a male chaperone, not be sold in a marriage contract, and murdered by your own family if you marry against your family's wishes, etc.

The problems faced by women in the US and UK are hardly in the same league.

Time for another Luddite rebellion then. Are these geniuses who design and manufacture robots thinking about the possible catastrophic events that could result from a world of automation? Do the big Corporate CEOs and shareholders who profit very well from using robots not see any signs of writing on the wall?

Maybe these robots will get so smart one day that they'll consign us all to the trash dumpster

It's a mix of things for me and confidence is one of the issues as is a learning disability that was only diagnosed as an adult, so likely had it my entire life and explains why despite all the work and effort in school that I did in the past, I still performed poorly. I graduated high school with a 2.3 GPA roughly.

There are some programs that I believe are within my abilities that while won't lead to high income would lead to 14-15/hr which is better then I can get now, and would lead to more fulfilling work vs dead end mindless retail or hotel jobs that pay poorly and are being outsourced to machines slowly but surely.

I am in Canada so things are different here and the only real hurdle currently keeping from one of these programs is funding. I don't qualify for student loans (even if I did,m the loans rarely cover the entire cost of education) so the only options available are either self pay which isn't an option at all at the moment since our income is low or alternative funding via other government programs.

Those alternative programs require a lot of red tape and hoops and I am currently in the process of going through the red tape and hoops and assuming I don't get a job between now and whenever, I may get some funding in the future once I complete the hoops and red tape.

All one has to do is look at the news pictures today of a bunch of smug, financially secure white men celebrating putting the "Mexico City Policy" back in effect to know that women need, now more than ever, to keep an eagle eye on what is going on .... everywhere.
