We found an "Aussie" pie shop called Pie Not in Costa Mesa in So CA. Nice pies, and Brits would find something they might like there. Some weird names for some of the pies, but there are descriptions of them. Yummy.

I don't know of any pie shops around here. Pies are normally sweet.

Though recently I've brought both sausage rolls and mince pies to work pot lucks which went down a treat with co workers. I have to get the sausage meat from a butcher shop. Supermarket sells either Italian sausage or breakfast sausage meat only.

Then there are those frozen Marie Callender pot pies which aren't very good.

Quite easy to make your own pies though.

There is a great British pie shop on the outskirts of Orlando called the Proper Pie Company. They cook the pies on site and they are wonderful. All types available. They also keep a good stock of British goods. Only wish they were a bit closer to home.

The only pie shops I know of here in NC make only fruit and dessert pies.

Never had a true Aussie meat pie. I've had Jamaican meat pies, Cornish pasties, beef Wellington and chicken pot pie. All are very tasty. More research is necessary here. Are they available in Chicago?

I was confused by the statement that the American Indians would use the "whole of the animal" - didn't everybody do that? Wastage was uncommon in colonial times. It wasn't until I talked about steak and kidney pies, black pudding, and liver pate that I realised how much Americans are squeamish about offal. Unless it is minced up very finely and placed in a hotdog.

Oooh. Jamaican meat pies. They are good. I used to buy some from a gas station in Fort Lupton but I don't have that territory any more. Never found them anywhere else.

I did not realize how local our Aussie Pie shop was, just a few outlets in the area.

Noticed this too - just moved down here (NC Triangle) from CT. Used to have a choice of local British stores in the area which would keep pies and other such goodies in their freezers...not found anything equivalent here (although Southern Season have a few things like sausages and bacon). Guess I'll need to put an order in to English Pork Pie Co...

Mmmmm pies
I think it depends where you are in the US and how much of an Irish influence there is, various places had a lot of miners from Ireland and you can get pies and stuff like that. I noticed in Butte, Montana that places have cornish pasties on the menu although they did have some unusual fillings.

Pleasant House Bakery in Bridgeport makes tasty (if ridiculously named) royal pies, which are the closest I ever found. The crust was altogether too crispy to be legit.

NYC, on the other hand, is practically teeming with Aussie/NZ pie shops: Pie Face, Dub Pies, Tuck Shop, etc. I can even get lamingtons!!

Ah the Cornish pastie, something the Aussies have never quite mastered, but they give it a go I suppose (insist on sweetcorn). We have a pie face down the road from us, and after 2 months working in Malaysia, a pie was almost top of my list, so I had 2 . Going back to England for my brothers wedding next year, popping to Cornwall (from Kent) for a pastie now

Lots of pies here. Hand pies seem to be the new thing. They're kind of pasty like.
