Oh! Just realized we're in the same thread where I've already said that.
I do find it surprising though.
Hope springs eternal....with movements like Pink Stinks

my 5 year old went to one of her preschool girl pals birthday parties today - and the theme was spiderman! And the presents she was MOST excited about were Ninja Turtle stuff. And my daughter loudly said her next party theme should be power rangers.

Good for your daughter and her friend. It's about time the tide was turned on the pink, purple, sparkly princess type stuff.

While we're on the subject of role models for girls, I cringe at a lot of the stuff my daughter listens to. I was pleasantly surprised when she said she thought this one goes a bit far (partly because she very seldom talks to me anyway ).

So, we've been away from home for exactly a month. I put a hold on the mail, and had it all delivered today.
This is what a months mail looks like in the Yorkie household.....

WTF in America-image.jpg

The 2 piles on the right are junk that will go in the recycling.
The pile on the left is the junk that will go to the shredder.
The teeny tiny pile 2nd is what I gleaned to be actually "useful"...to act upon, or to keep.

The pile on the right includes a 1+ inch thick phone book (who even uses them anymore?) which this time arrived by USPS.....perhaps an improvement in delivery service, versus being dropped halfway up the garden path, but it still doesn't save it from going straight to recycling without being opened!

That is a phenomenal amount of waste happening every month.....

A great trick for getting removed from mailing lists is to return their junk to them - even better if they've got a prepaid envelope (as many in the UK do), stuff it full of the junk with no return address and a short note thanking them for their junk and that as a mark of gratitude you've enclosed some rubbish for their amusement and that maybe they'd like to cut out the middle man and communicate with each other.
This method led to all but the total cessation of junk mail in my (UK)household after approximately a 3 month period, as it would appear that the majority of the rubbish comes from a small handful of offenders.

That's about the same ratio as US. Our mail is delivered weekly and a week'd mail just about crams our standard sized mailbox. In that there is typically 1-2 magazines, 2-4 useful pieces of mail, and a 3"-4" stack of junk, which almost always includes an envelope from either Dish Network or Direct TV, and sometimes both. . ..... Guess what guys? I didn't want your satellite service last month, nor the one before, nor the one before that, AND SURPRISE SURPRISE I DON'T WANT YOUR CRUMMY SATELLITE SERVICE THIS MONTH EITHER!

That looks about right. The phone book thing annoys me no end as ours gets tossed into the driveway from a moving car and left there, along with all the "newspapers" that keep showing up. For all I know, it's some other angry recipient just driving around dumping his shit in other peoples yards.

Mrs N. will pick 'em up and recycle them. left to me, it would just lie there and rot. Not sure why it is considered "ok" to litter other peoples property with this shit.
