This seems to be a carbon copy of that famous South African runner who had prosthetic legs. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Pistorius

Re: WTF in America
Our dog sleeps in the bed but she is only 10 pounds and no way could be confused for a human.
Plus dogs usually bark if they detect something odd in their home, our dog knows the difference between us and our usual noise vs a strange noise, hell just opening a window or door would set our dog off barking, so I doubt anyone would ever get into the apartment, and would need a ladder to get in since we are not ground floor.
First thought to me would be, hmmm noise + dog doesn't care = very likely someone the dog knows.

General point, anyone whose first thought in a domestic situation (i.e. not a foxhole in Afghanistan or similar,) is, “I’m not sure who that is so I’ll shoot them with my handy, loaded gun,” is a batshit crazy, stupid, bloody idiot. I believe there are many millions of such people in the US.

If you're not using your gun to seize the means of production by force, then you might as well just sell it

Cats are no go around me, my skin is like seasoned leather but the merest hint of cat hair and I need to scratch it off.

Half my bloody street. Apparently when there was a protest for the rights of black people to not be killed within 50 miles of our town, one of our neighbors delighted in telling my wife that there were so many fun owners in the neighborhood we'd be totally safe. Like, that makes me feel the opposite of safe but whatever.

I'm not a fan a guns myself, needless to say. I fully understand Marx's reasoning, but I don't like the idea that any wanker off the street can wander in and buy an instrument of death like it's a new washing machine.

Re: WTF in America
I wonder how many handguns people have for "protection" end up killing friends and family compared to how many are used in actual protection against a violent intruder.
Anytime I have heard noises in the middle of the night, I have never automatically thought intruder must jump up and fight.

My (public) school had a CCF when I was there. I didn't join. I did fire a gun there at their firing range and missed the target every time. Almost certainly the first and last time I'll fire a gun.

Re: WTF in America
One night someone was trying to break into the house I lived in, and I didn't even think of grabbing the 9mm from under the pillow; I went after him with a bat. Sold my handguns shortly after.

Re: WTF in America
I would find it a hard to decide on whether to own a gun or not (were I to live in the USA). When so many people have them, and so many crazies are about, there would be an incentive to buy one. On the other hand, the stats indicate that one is far morely likely to be shot as a gun owner. Tough call.
