WTF in America

Re: WTF in America
Show me a teacher in the UK in the 60s/70s who says they didn't and I can probably show you a liar. Chalk hurt but didn't leave the mess and pain the blackboard rubber did.

We had a science teacher who did that at a boy who kept talking in one class, he ducked and the eraser hit the window behind him. Now I've seen pots of cartoons where that happens, and the eraser just hangs there as the window breaks, and then falls through, but this was real life and that's just what happened.

Re: WTF in America
We had a psycho in grade 4 who threw a lot of chalk, an occasional eraser, and once, when he really lost it, a wooden pointer. He wasn't mean to the core though, and not the worst. The majority of good teachers made up for it.

The blackboard eraser thing was common at my school.
Our English teacher could peg any kid in the room, right in the back of the head, without even coming in from chatting with other teachers in the corridor.
Paul Hutchinson.. If you are alive and reading this... I'm talking about you.
One of our Science teachers went a bit further once and knocked a kid off of a moped with a shovel.
Happy days.

Little Miss Haggerty the high-school science teacher knocked me right over with her red Sunbeam Alpine as she wheeled into the teachers' parking lot, didn't even slow down to yell sorry.

It's crazy witnessing the different reactions to a guy who was killed by the government after a minor crime in North Korea and a guy who was killed by the US police but didn't commit a crime. You'd think that they were similar enough that there would be consistent opinions on both, but apparently one government enforcer can do no wrong and the other can do no right.

Re: WTF in America
Our English teacher was a thrower and a yeller. He had one of the long window poles propped up at the side of the blackboard, and set about a lad about 3-4 rows back with it from the front of class, because the lad wouldn't stop chatting.

We also had the cane at school. I am not sure if any US schools dish out corporal punishment. In the UK this probably went against human rights. Maybe Brexit will fix that.

We did too. At one parents evening the head master told my parents that he had had to cane me. My mother was surprised, but supportive of the decision .... however the headmaster had confused me with another boy he had caned!
