Why do they always refer to me as a "guest" when I bring my car in for a service?
I'm not there for their hospitality - just an oil change.
Pretentiousness drives me nuts.

That's gotta be a regional thing. I've never been referred to as a guest except at hotels!

Is that a Pet Peeve?

(Personally I detest shop assistants talking to me first...)

We live on a dead end, so it comes down to the best spot for the mail truck to turn around. Apparently that's 200yds down the road

Public prayer in chain restaurants. Could not believe my eyes when I first saw this but turns out it's quite common here. Although I rarely see it in Maine, in Alaska it was common.

Yep! We're in Bridgeland. I seem to remember you're somewhere in or near Copperfield?

And that doesn't surprise me. It is right by Lone Star College, after all.

Target uses the term guest as well, as does Disney Parks in the US both in California as well as Florida, its also used randomly by other companies.

Mostly used by companies who try to be different and offer a slightly better quality of service.

I've never considered it to be pretentious or anything.

Target has been doing it probably close to 20 years or longer now, and Disney even longer, Target got much of it customer oriented idea's from Disney, and just implemented them to suit retail vs theme park.

Target did it when they revamped the company, up until the early-90's Target didn't have the best reputation, and was more like what K-Mart is today.

Organised by the restaurant, or just by people who happened to be there?

I've never seen that, thankfully.

Organized by the establishment? I'd have a huge issue with that.

Me neither, thankfully, despite living deep in the bible belt and dining out fairly regularly.

I want to make a joke about eating out in the bible belt now

But yeah, we ate at a few chain and non-chain restaurants in Kentucky last year and never saw a hint at prayer, public or otherwise.
