According to media in Canada, the case will be presented to a grand jury who may decide on a more serious charge. A bit more details slowly coming out. (they keep updating this article and not removing stagnant info.)

The mayor was on tv this morning pledging a thorough and impartial investigation, crapping bricks hoping there won't be a riot.

Similarly, pick-up trucks would never catch on in the UK the way they did here. There is a reason why tradesmen in the UK all drive transit vans not pick-ups. I have left tools and equipment in my truck while shopping at Lowes and for groceries, but would never have dreamt of being able to do that in the UK. 
The Royal Mail doesn't have its own police force with powers of arrest though.

OK, so they may just want to ban the flavoured varieties but WTF?

The gas explosions in Massachusetts- at any other time they would be headline news. But how on earth does the gas company get it so wrong that they blow up half a town?

The school will almost certainly lose this one, but it's an election year so unsurprisingly the state is pursuing it.
