4th July , Independence day , leaves me scratching my head.
I never knew what it was about until I got a visa and came to the states, it seems its for celebration for breaking away from the British rule and becoming established as an independent country, good for them, but was it for tax reasons? i pay more salary tax here than i did in the UK, at least 10% including medical anyway. is that wrong to think like that?

It was many things; throwing off the yoke of tyranny of the British, taxation without representation, and the - then - unheard of notion that all men are created equal.

For you maybe, for me it just means one less day that I get paid. that sounds F%#ked being an exempt employee.

Not all bad. I did "work from home" yesterday. Managed to cut the grass, trim some trees, change out some weak outlets, while still working.

Should still get paid for the national holiday though, even if you do manage to get a little back here and there.

If that's true how were the Founding Fathers to know? All they knew was that there were no representatives from the colonies in London to hear their voice heard so they just said **** it we're leaving

I think I figured out how to drive in Paris; at least it's the rule I stuck to, and it worked pretty well. The leading car in the race - and it's always a race, isn't it? - has the right of way. Once clearly in the lead, in the outside lane for instance, you may cut across all the inside lanes - as long as your indicator is on, of course. The other drivers will let you - at least, in my experience. But if you're not leading the field, you've no chance of being allowed to cut across even one lane, and you'll have to stay in your lane going round and round the Arc de Triomphe until you die. Even after that, probably. Does that ring a bell with anybody?
