Pregnant mother refused travel on Disney cruise
An expecting mom from St. Louis says she’s unhappy with how the staff at Disney Cruise Line treated her family after they were denied entry to the ship.
Emily Jackson, who is 25 weeks pregnant with her third child, had flown with her family to Miami to board their cruise on the Disney Magic, due to leave on a 6-day trip to the Caribbean. But upon arriving at the port of departure, Jackson claims she was not allowed on the ship because she “missed the pregnancy cutoff” of 24 weeks, despite providing the staff with a note from her doctor.
Just thought if only she was from Essex
Or New Jersey.

Re: WTF in America
I assume that they have the same 24 weeks for all their Cruises. Now does not seem unreasonable to me, is there a longer norm in the cruise industry.

Re: WTF in America
A quick look suggests 24 weeks is pretty standard.

IMO it is not stupid...it’s not about sitting on a boat. What if there is an emergency with the pregnancy? Cruise ships have a medical department but can only perform minor surgeries. A cruise ship is often a day or more from land...planes are usually a few hours at the most. Air lifting a patient from a ship at sea is dangerous.

Re: WTF in America
This will be due to the potential risks involved, and there needs to be a cut off I imagine, rather than just banning all pregnant people. From 24 onwards a premature birth is possible and complications become much more serious to both mother and child. Better to have an unhappy mother to be on or near land than a couple of day off at see with limited medical support should the worst happen. The longest International flight is 17 hours non-stop, still not ideal if you get into problems, but far less risky than being on a boat. Even then they advise against it for planes, which in most cases could be diverted to a landing within an hour or two on most routes.

Re: WTF in America
That 17 hour flight is mostly over land, just the India to Australia bit would need a diversion.

An Atlanta charter school is under fire for conveying blackface masks while reciting a historic African-American poem that symbolizes black oppression.
Second-graders on Thursday held up blackface masks in a reading of 19th-century author Paul Laurence Dunbar’s poem “We Wear the Mask" as part of the school's black history program, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The performance at The Kindezi School at Old Fourth Ward is now facing criticism from the community and parents who have questioned the masks' context.
According to a widely shared Facebook post, which was reported by the Journal-Constitution, one parent said that "Kindezi Old Fourth Ward has to do better."
