WTF in America

Re: WTF in America
Ask yourself why pickup trucks are popular in the US, but rare in the UK? I sometimes have tools and equipment, or other stuff, in my truck when I stop at the grocery or DIY warehouse. I have never lost anything yet, but wouldn't even dream of leaving stuff in an open-bed truck in the UK.

Compare that with my wifes dad in the summer when we were fixing up the house, 'just leave the table saw, grinder and tools out the back, it won't rain'... That was worrying and weird for me that the only concern was the weather, and not people nabbing it!

We've lived in this house for over twenty years; we've never locked it. (Actually it's not capable of being locked.) We never lock the car, unless we are out of town.

That's what they told me when we arrived here. I have to say, we have never heeded them, I still lock the house and the car. Only maybe ...I don't double/triple check that I have locked the house as I leave.

Rural New York State, just south of the Canadian border. I don't know anyone around here who locks their house. Makes it easier for FedEx etc., if they have something to deliver they bring it right in and leave it on the kitchen table.

Not so much of a problem in FL, probably because you don't know if you've just entered into a Russian Roulette zone, with a fully loaded chamber...

Re: WTF in America
That said, my truck has a factory-fitted anti-theft device - a manual transmission. Unfortunately that is no longer an option on new ones.

Re: WTF in America
Then three years ago there was a break-in on our block, so now most people lock everything.

Probably has, yes, but I'm a bit out of touch with local news... never heard of break in or burglaries around here though.

Same in Vancouver, BC and area. A truck of tools left for an extended time would be very tempting to the petty criminals mostly who need money for drugs.
I would never leave anything in my car locked let alone in a pick up..
Mostly fueled by the opoid crises.
Most of the petty crooks wont bother breaking into a house though.

This is why there should be some sort of limitation on support animals as they are rarely trained correctly..
