I did notice when the nominations were announced that 3 of the actresses nominated for lead role were British, interestingly enough there is only one American actress nominated (Meryl Streep)..
I've just realised that Peter O'tool is Irish.. I had no idea..

Not just the British but also most European actors have a certain something about them Americans can't recreate, a bit like the actual continents themselves, for all their money and power America still doesn't have that certain something that Europe has.
Sophistication, maturity, refinement, an air of authority, call it what you want but it's definitely there, or not there as the case may be for the yanks.

America had Grace Kelly, Gregory Peck, Humphrey Bogart, Katherine Hepburn, and many more. I can't think of anyone currently with the same class as the actors of the '40's and '50's. The difference with modern actors is that they are celebrities first and foremost and actors second. Or third.

What does their wit and sense of humor have to do with their acting ability? Unless it is a British comedy can't see where that would come in.
Believe that today's actors in the US are nothing more than children playing at dress up. Yes there are some very fine actors of US birth but they are older and mature and not suited for the soft porn pix that Hollywood is putting out today.
